‘She threw an ear with us’

كانت رامية ودن معانا ‘She was eavesdropping on us.’ As though unnamed woman was so desperate to hear your conversation, she went all van Gogh on your shit, ripped her ear off, and then threw it in your general direction. It is times like these I wish TeamMaha had a cartoonist.

“YOU BROKE THE WORLD.”

بوّظت الدنيا “bawazt ed-dunya!” (to a girl: bawazty) Equivalent to, “You messed everything up!” but a LOT more dramatic, especially when written in all caps as above. #DramaQueen2014

“The world is crowded.”

الدُنيا زَحمة “ad-dunya za7ma“ aka, “It’s really crowded [right now/today].” A bit of an exaggeration, but at the same time, not really, because Cairo is SO. crowded. all the time. [الدنيا = world, زحمة = a nice catch-all word for crowded-ness–not just for cars.]
